- Rang in the new year from a friend’s house in West Nashville while watching a bootlegged copy of The Star Wars Holiday Special
- Started my first new job in five years.
- Rode the bus at least once almost every work day this year, usually on the commute home
- Attended several protests and demonstrations in support of refugees, health care and social justice
- Followed the national, state and local news a lot closer than I have since working for a newspaper
- Began blogging twice a week for Nashvillest to write the local news recaps
- Went to one wedding this year, fewer than in past years
- Assembled a lot of IKEA furniture
- Adopted our first pet, an 11 week-old puppy named Indy
- Found out the day before adopting him that I was technically allergic to dogs
- Began allergy shot therapy three times a week then once every two weeks
- Went to a lot of hockey games, including a long playoff run all the way to Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final
- Ended my three year stint as a season ticket holder to free up more of my social calendar and to take care of puppy
- Attended neighborhood meetings and helped host a job shadow day for high school students at work through it
- Removed enough concrete from around our house to fill a 20-foot dumpster
- Worked with various contractors on projects around the house
- Helped Samantha paint a few rooms
- Took a lot of photos this year, but the vast majority were of the dog
- Celebrated our eleventh year of marriage
- Received a title bump at work and some new assignments
- Decorated the outside of our house for Christmas for the first time
- Pushed more than 2,000 commits to GitHub, with a good portion of them on open source software
- Managed to not get on an airplane all year for the first time since 2008
- Had way too many friends and acquaintances receive a cancer diagnosis
- Rang in the new year from our home in East Nashville with our dog asleep on the floor beside us
