Because I'm not feeling particularly long-winded today (or it might be the self-induced headache), I'll break down a few notes with little to no transition between paragraphs. Take that, English majors!

I'm still trying to figure out the motivation behind fake Web sites, like The Penguin Warehouse and Dog Island . These sites obviously do not offer real services, and can be spotted by their absurdity and well-pollished design. My bet is that a aspiring Web designer needed to show of his or her talents, and all the while make a few people laugh. But domains aren't cheap (although getting cheaper), so I suppose that makes it even funnier.

The newspaper office is still a mess, but the carpet-layers should be in there in the next few days. We've gotten a brown, industrial-grade carpet going in to compliment the nice red chairs bought over the summer. People tell me it will look good. I take their word for it. The painting is done on the walls, all but one of the new computers are in, and we have a new (to us) scanner. I'm a bit anxious to get back to work up there.

Kevin and I sat down with Chancellor Dunagan recently to a litany of topics, ranging from housing, administration shakeups, and diplomas among others. It should be a busy first few weeks of school, and there is no shortage of content for Issue 1. After the meeting, I began to remember why I need business cards. WIHM, I'll pick up a box of those from Printing and Duplicating.

Money is very tight right now, as both Samantha and I's bank cards are in the freezer ... literally. It frustrates me that I've managed to run through $500 in savings I started the summer with, but then again I'm not exactly working. Torrential rains have kept me away from Greenfield, although I'm supposed to be there tomorrow. I need to remind my parents to bring the Macintosh's keyboard and mouse. I also need to find the pieces/parts to the desk they're helping me move over here.

The new wireless router works, after much headache. The PS2, PC and my laptop are all in on it, so I would say the project is a success. I left it "open" for any other tenant to use, since Internet is provided in the leases anyway. It was supposed to cost nearly $80 according to the sticker on the shelf, but rang up for under $40. We made sure to tell the cashier AFTER I had the box in hand. I'd say it was a worthwhile investment, and not that bad of a price. After doing a bit of research, my suspicion is that somebody fumbled keying in the barcode at Wal-Mart HQ. If so, they're losing an a lot of money.

My site now has the beta version of Gallery2 running, although it isn't quit integrating well with my current WP theme. It once again exposes my need for a digital camera, because these were all the pictures I could find worth posting.

Still waiting to hear back from a few contacts on possible Web design work, but it looks like I'll continue to maintain "bum" status for a while longer. Most of the advice I'm getting suggests that I swallow my pride and go find a real job. All I can say is that I won't go through another summer jobless like this again. I've broken through a few WordPress and PHP problems I was running into, so coding is going at a much faster pace on the few pro-bono sites I do.

Perhaps I'll turn my attentions to this site in the near future. It could use a couple of changes.
