The seasons in Tennessee are infamous for being poorly delimited. It is not uncommon for frost on the windshield in the morning to give way to low 80 degree weather in the afternoon. Extended periods of unseasonably hot or cold temperatures often highlight the evening newscasts.
It was during one of Mother Nature’s recent mood swings that we dumped out our winter clothes in the floor of our bedroom closet. We scrambled for sweaters, gloves and hoodies, knowing full well that it would probably be warm enough for t-shirts by the weekend. Obviously, the bitter cold of winter eventually will overtake the slightly warmer days of autumn. I know for certain that in December and January that it takes an extra 10-15 minutes each morning to scrape my windows off before driving in to work. November is just not a good month for certainty in the midst of transition, particularly when it comes to the weather.
