Leaflet from The Church of Scientology

The last few times Samantha and I have gone downtown, we return to our car to find a small leaflet left by the Church of Scientology on our windshield. Now, I am as much a live-and-let-live kind of guy as anyone, but these ads are a bit disturbing. Think for a moment what kind of person and in what state of mind would you need to be in to find any of this appealing?

  • Do you procrastinate to much?
  • Do you lack self confidence?
  • Too much stress?
  • Too much self-criticism?
  • What are your strengths?
  • Are you connecting with others like you should?
  • Do you sabotage yourself?

From this leaflet, I can tell that they are looking for people that do not quite feel comfortable in their own skin. I would even speculate that a person filled with self-doubt matches their ideal candidate. This does not help their case that Scientologist aggressively campaign against being labeled a cult; Cults grow when members have lost hope in finding a sense of belonging within traditional societal confines.

We spotted two suspicious characters the first time out, which Samantha called "Hans and Franz" for their matching shirts. With all of the negative press the group has been receiving, it really comes as no surprise that they are aggressively recruiting in our metropolitan area. Anyone else get one of these, or meet Hans and/or Franz up close and personal?
