My Mac mini is currently packed in a bag from Samantha’s work. It is also the subject of an appointment at the Apple Store in Green Hills for Friday. After crashing when awaken from Sleep Mode when I arrived home this evening, it never recovered. An hour and a half with AppleCare, two fruitless re-installation attempts and even a Time Machine recovery cannot seem to bring it back to its otherwise reliable self. At least the service/repair will be covered.

I just cracked open a mini last night. WTF? Do the mac gods hate us at the same time?
One of the machines at the press had a bad stick of memory and it was doing all sorts of things….
A putty knife, two phillips screwdrivers, some tenacity and a downloaded PDF, and it’s finally back up and running. The tough part is when you pry one side loose, it tries to close back down when you pry the other side.
Four jewlers #0 screws that hold the tray down, releasing the small connection beside the speaker and the airport card… and voila the whole thing lifts out.
It was a pain, and I spent almost 8 hours trying to figure out what was wrong… everything pointed to hdd failure… even disk warrior said so…
once I did the hardware test, turns out it was a 1 GB sodimm that was shot. took it out and the thing runs like a one legged dog on 256MB of RAM, but at least it’s running.
too bad I have to take it apart again to install the new RAM..
did I mention that I hate macs?
Here’s hoping that they can get it back up and running faster than what I did.
