No, I am not heading to UT Martin this weekend to partake in the events pictured. I believe that these kind of events are specificly the reason that fraternity and sorority memberships are on the decline despite increases in university enrollment. The public backlash across the nation is coming to such a head that even the editorial pages are being filled with anti-greek sentiment. While I maintain that my fraternity is different, the old marketing saying that "perception is reality" is particularly true in cases such as these.
Many administrations are wanting to wash their hands of the entire system on the basis of discrimination. No matter how much money is raised, community service hours donated or homecoming floats built, a few not-so-isolated incidents have bred the perception and even the culture of reckless abandon. There may very well come a day where the social greek-letter organization becomes a thing of the past.
