Brought in a "B" on my first music test, which was good. There was a ten-question extra credit quiz today, which was even better. My lab test in Geology wasn't so lucky. I'll be trying to redeem myself tomorrow morning bright and early at 8 a.m. This isn't my typical class meeting, but I'll be in Ruston, La. while the rest of the class takes this test Friday. Ah the joys of school sponsored trips.
Rush is off and running, with the final of the two informal nights tomorrow. This is always a stressful time for us, because our system isn't built around these arbitrary weeks. We say that we "recruit year-round," but the UTM IFC doesn't seem to like that idea very much. We figure that it should take a little more than a week to get to know a guy. I can't really fathom how other fraternities succeed at it.
Tonight we had one guy that we called to invite him over, but he had to do a class assignment before leaving town on a trip. Samantha suggested rather than badger him into coming over, we should just run him up a meal. Sometimes it's good to have a voice of common sense around. We sent a couple of freshmen up with a plate of spaghetti and a Coke. He appreciated it, and said he'd be over tomorrow night for chili.
In thinking about it, I suppose this would make more sense as a recruiting strategy. The guys we're looking for probably aren't the ones that are carousing at the various houses, eating their fill of the $25 rush fee they won't have to pay unless they join. (This is a change from my year, where you paid regardless.) The "Scholars" we're seeking out are up in their dorm rooms, finishing up papers or getting ready for the inevitable test. We might be making several house calls tomorrow given that this one went so well.
